I Built a Fortune-Telling Service to Sell. Now I’m Giving the Readings Away for Free.

FCE4U Daily Fortune with BaZi, Western Astrology, Vedic Astrology, and Numerology
Daily Fortune combines BaZi, Western Astrology, Vedic Astrology, and Numerology to provide a clear daily fortune score for today, tomorrow, and the days ahead.

Have you ever checked your daily fortune or today's fortune and wondered how that result was actually calculated?

I did.

One small question eventually led me to spend nearly two months developing my own fortune-telling engine.

I called it FCE4U — Fortune Consensus Engine For You.

At first, it was simply a personal experiment.

But as the project grew, I began developing it as an actual paid fortune-telling service.

I designed different types of readings, considered pricing, prepared service screens, and even purchased the domain fce4u.com.

Then I made an unexpected decision.

I decided not to launch it as a paid service.

Instead, I decided to gradually make the fortune readings I had developed available for free.

Why did I make that decision?

That is the story I want to tell here.

1. It Started With a Simple Question About My Birth Time

I used to check the free fortune service provided by my bank.

One day, I became curious about something.

Would my fortune change if I changed only my birth time?

So I tried it.

I kept my birth date the same and changed only the birth time.

But the fortune result remained the same.

That made me wonder:

“If birth time is part of fortune calculation, shouldn’t changing it affect the result?”

That simple question became the starting point of the entire project.

Why Did the Same Result Make Me Curious?

I was not trying to prove that the fortune service was wrong.

I simply wanted to understand how a fortune result was actually calculated.

If birth date, birth time and birthplace are used in traditional fortune systems, I wondered which pieces of information actually changed a daily fortune result.

That curiosity led me to start researching fortune calculation methods myself.

2. I Began Studying Four Different Fortune Systems

Instead of looking at only one method, I began researching several different fortune systems.

Eventually, I focused on four:

  1. Four Pillars of Destiny (Saju / BaZi)
  2. Western Astrology
  3. Vedic Astrology
  4. Numerology

These four systems developed from different traditions and do not calculate fortune in exactly the same way.

That gave me another idea.

What If Four Systems Calculated the Same Person Independently?

Instead of deciding that one system was correct and the others were wrong, I wanted to see what would happen if all four independently analyzed the same person.

Would their results be similar?

Would they be completely different?

Could their results be compared?

That idea became the foundation of FCE4U.

What Does FCE4U Mean?

FCE stands for:

Fortune Consensus Engine

I added 4U, meaning:

For You

So the full name became:

Fortune Consensus Engine For You — FCE4U.

3. A Personal Experiment Turned Into a Business

The project became much larger than I originally expected.

At first, I was simply trying to answer my own questions about fortune calculation.

But as development continued, I started wondering:

“Could this become a real online fortune service?”

I began researching fortune-telling and astrology markets in Korea and overseas.

I found that interest in daily fortune readings, astrology, relationships, compatibility and future forecasts was not limited to Korea.

So I began thinking seriously about turning FCE4U into an actual service.

I Started Developing Paid Fortune Readings

This was no longer just an experiment.

I began designing different products that could eventually be offered as paid services.

Daily Fortune

Today, tomorrow and ±7-day fortune readings.

Future Fortune

Monthly, yearly and New Year fortune readings.

Love and Relationship Fortune

Love, relationships and compatibility readings.

Travel Fortune

Fortune readings related to domestic and international travel.

There were other ideas as well.

I considered what information each reading should provide, how the results should be presented, and how much different services might cost.

I Even Bought the FCE4U.com Domain

Eventually, I purchased:

fce4u.com

I mention this because FCE4U was not simply an idea that I thought about developing someday.

I was seriously preparing to turn it into a real service.

I had developed the fortune engine, planned multiple products, worked on service screens and pricing, and purchased a domain for the project.

4. Then I Found a Problem I Hadn't Expected

The problem was not simply whether the four fortune systems could produce calculations.

FCE4U was designed to calculate results using different fortune systems and then provide detailed explanations that ordinary users could understand.

AI was going to play an important role in producing those explanations.

And that created a difficult question.

Could I Completely Control Every AI-Generated Interpretation?

AI can generate surprisingly detailed explanations.

But operating a paid service is very different from privately experimenting with AI.

If many customers were paying for a fortune reading, I would need confidence that the service consistently followed the standards I had established.

I kept asking myself:

“Can I guarantee that every detailed AI-generated response will stay within the rules and intentions of the service?”

I could not confidently say yes.

That became one of my biggest concerns.

5. Free and Paid Fortune Services Are Different

Reading a free fortune for entertainment or reference and paying for a fortune service are not the same thing.

Once a customer pays money, that customer reasonably expects a certain level of quality and consistency.

If an AI-generated explanation unexpectedly moved away from the intended guidelines, the customer might question the result or complain.

The Responsibility Would Be Mine, Not the AI's

If something went wrong, I could not simply say:

“The AI wrote it.”

The AI would not be operating the business.

I would.

The responsibility for the service would ultimately be mine.

And if the service became popular, manually reviewing every single AI-generated interpretation would be unrealistic.

The more I developed FCE4U, the more seriously I thought about this problem.

6. Why I Decided Not to Launch the Paid Service

This was not an easy decision.

I had already spent considerable time developing the fortune engine.

I had designed many types of fortune readings, considered pricing, prepared service structures and purchased the domain.

But eventually, I reached a conclusion:

I should not charge customers for a service if I cannot sufficiently control the risks involved in operating it.

So I decided not to commercialize FCE4U as a paid fortune service.

The Fortune Calculation Itself Was Not the Reason

This distinction is important.

I did not abandon the project because I concluded that the fortune calculation itself was a failure.

The issue was different.

My concern was operating an AI-assisted interpretation system as a paid commercial service and accepting responsibility for every detailed response delivered to customers.

Those are two different questions.

I stopped the paid business plan.

But I did not throw away everything I had developed.

7. Now I'm Giving the Fortune Readings Away for Free

After deciding not to commercialize FCE4U, another question remained.

What should I do with everything I had already developed?

I had spent considerable time studying:

  • Four Pillars of Destiny (Saju)
  • Western Astrology
  • Vedic Astrology
  • Numerology

I had also developed many fortune-reading products that were originally intended to become paid services.

Should I simply delete all of them?

I decided not to.

If I'm Not Going to Sell Them, Why Not Share Them for Free?

That became my new direction.

Instead of selling the fortune readings, I decided to gradually release them for free.

I also decided to share the story behind the project:

  • What I researched
  • How different fortune systems work
  • How FCE4U was designed
  • What problems I encountered
  • What I learned during development
  • What kinds of fortune readings I actually created

This blog will document that journey for readers around the world.

More of the fortune readings originally designed as paid products will also be released for free, one by one.

What will the next free fortune reading be?
